Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a continuous coloring apparatus for a long, narrow steel hoop as it is, by subjecting the hoop supplied from a drum successively to a pretreatment, water washing, coloring, water washing, and finishing.
CONSTITUTION: A steel hoop, e.g., stainless steel hoop, to be colored is charged from a drum 2 to a pretreatment step A, where the steel hoop 1 passes through a phosphoric acid soln. and undergoes electrochemical treatment. Then the steel hoop 1 is water washed in a washing step B and is transferred to a coloring step C, where it passes through an oxidizing soln. comprising, for example, chromic acid and sulfuric acid, to form colored layer of oxide coating on the surface thereof. The steel hoop having been coated with the colored layer in the coloring step C is fed to a washing step D, where it is water washed, then transferred to a hardening step E, where it is passed through a hardening soln. contg. chromic acid and phosphoric acid. While passing through the step E, the hoop 1 is treated electrochemically with the hoop 1 used as a cathode to form hardened coating on the oxide coating of the steel hoop 1 surface. After being finished at a step F, the steel hoop 1 is wound by a power reel 3.
