Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an amine derivative useful as a resolving reagent of medicines, pesticides, ect., or an intermediate of medicine, in high yield, from a phenylalkyl halide derivative and a benzylnitrile derivative.
CONSTITUTION: An amine derivative of formula II (R1W5 are H, halogen, OH, trihalogenomethyl, phenyl, etc; n is 1W3) is prepared by decomposing an amide compound of formula I under alkaline conditions. For example, α-phenyl-β- (p-tolyl) ethylamine is prepared with 98% yield. The compound of formula I can be prepared by (1) condensing a halogen compound III (X is halogen) with an acetonitrile derivative IV, and (2) hydrolyzing the resulting nitrile compound V.
