Abstract
PURPOSE:In a pressurizing type on demand ink jet, to detect the flight direction and velocity of an ink droplet before starting of recording by use of a device which senses the passing of an ink droplet through the opening of a slit plate and, at the same time, measures the time period from the injection to the impingement on the sensor. CONSTITUTION:When an ink droplet is injected from an ink jet head 1 by the test pulse from a test pulse generator 20, the droplet passes through the opening 12 of a slit plate 11 of an ink droplet flight direction detector 10 and impinges on a sensor 13, when an output signal is fed from an ink droplet detector 24 to a trigger generator 26. The trigger signal stops the counting action of a delay time counter 22, thereby counting the time t required for the droplet to fly from the head 1 to the detector 24, and a delay time decider 27 decides whether the time t is within a predetermined range or not. When the flight direction of the ink droplet or the delay time t is outside the allowable range, an alarm or display device is operated.
