Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a polyester with high polymerization degree and low carboxyl content, by adding a specific melt viscosity reducing agent in the manufacture of the polyester in a molten state.
CONSTITUTION: The objective polyester can be obtained by adding a polymer (with an average polymerization degree of 5W20) having recurring units of formula (X is 3W6C alkylidene, 1W3C alkylene, sulfonyl, or -O-; n is an integer: 2W6) in the manufacturing process of the polyester of high polymerization degree by the reaction between dicarboxylic acids consisting chiefly of therephthalic acid and glycols consisting mainly of ethylene glycol or between the corresponding ester- forming derivatives. Said polymer is desired to be added at any time when the intrinsic viscosity of the reaction product is ≤0.6, and its amount to be added is such that the content in the polyester finally obtained may be 0.1W10wt% (especially 0.5W8wt%).
