Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide an anti-microbial agent effective to keep paint, etc. from getting moldy, and to control various blights of agricultural and horticultural plants, containing 3-acetyl (or 3-ethyl)-5,6-dihydro-4-hydroxy-6-methyl-2H pyran-2-one as main component.
CONSTITUTION: An anti-microbial agent containing the 3-acetyl-2H pyran derivative of formula I or the 3-ethyl-2H pyran derivative of formula II as main component. The compounds I and II are analogs of dehydroacetic acid which is an anti-mold agent. The continual use of dehydroacetic acid for a long time, sometimes yields resistant fungi resulting in the lowering of the effectiveness. In such a case, by replacing a part or the whole of the dehydroacetic acid with the compound I or II, the effectivity of the agent can be restored. Dose: 50W8000ppm for adding to an industrial product, and 500W4000ppm for scattering to fruits, green vegetables, etc.
