Abstract

PURPOSE: To facilitate maintenance without scratching a photoconductive drum, by charging residual toner and transferring this to a cleaning roller without cohtact by virtue of an electric field.
CONSTITUTION: High resistance toner remaining on photoconductive drum 1 is corona charged by precharger 8 connected to high voltage source 9 to keep fatigue of the photoreceptor and its deterioration at a minimal limit. Drum 1 is uniformly exposed to light from lamp 10 to erase charge on drum 1, leaving charge only on the toner. An electric field formed by bias source 13 is applied to a transfer roller consisting of a rotary or fixed sleeve roller 12 and rotary magnet roller 11 to transfer the residual toner. The transferred toner to roller 12 is scraped down with scraper 14 and collected in toner recovery tray 15, thus permitting drum 1 not to be scratched and its maintenance to be facilitated.
