Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve display quality by disposing light shield bodies in the contact parts between adjoining polarizing plates in the display device comprising arraying plural polarizing plates on the pattern display surface of the liquid crystal display element and making color display.
CONSTITUTION: In the liquid crystal color display device formed by sealing DSM- type liquid crystal 4 between the lower substrate 1b provided with lower electrodes 2b and the upper substrate 1a provided with upper electrodes 2a and parallel disposing a reflecting plate 7 to the outer side of the lower substrate 1b and polarizing plates 6a, 6b, 6c showing red, yellow and blue colors to the outer side of the upper substrate 1a respectively in correspondence to the upper electrodes 2a; light shield bodies 8 are provided in the contact parts of the above-mentioned polarizing plates 6a, 6b, 6c at such a width to cover said portions and with good linearity. Hence, the dark parts 9 of good linearity are formed despite fluctuations such as cutting, affixing condition, etc. of each polarizing plate and the display patterns of superior quality may be obtained.
