Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A derivative of 1-phthalazone of formula I [R1-R5 are alkyl; R4 and R5 may together form a di-subsituted methylene group of formula II (R6, R7 are alkyl)].
EXAMPLE: A compound of formula I (R3=R4=R5=C2H5).
USE: Agents for arteriosclerosis, antithrombotics, or antagonists of thromboxane A2. The compound has an excellent antagonistic property for thromboxane A2 and is useful for prevention and remedy of arteriosclerosis, thrombosis, ischemic cerebral vascular disease and ischemic heart disease.
PROCESS: A compound of formula I is obtained by the treatment of a compound of formula III, e.g. 7-ethoxycarbonyl-6, 8-dimethyl-4-formyl-1-phthalazone, with a compound of formula IV, e.g. malonic acid dimethyl ester, 2, 2-dimethyl-1, 3- dioxane-4, 6-dione, etc.
