Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:An adduct of tung oil with m-isopropylphenol of formula I: [at least one of the three-(A)- is group of formula II, the rest are groups of formula III].
EXAMPLE: The compound of the estimated structural formula IV.
USE: Usable for coating materials and resins, e.g. laiminates having heat and solvent resistance and dimensional stability, due to the properties of internally plasticized phenolic resins.
PROCESS: 100 Parts by wt. of tung oil is reacted with 200 parts by wt. or more of m-isopropylphenol in the presence of an acid catalyst to prepare the adduct of formula I. An organic sulfonic acid organic acid, mineral acid etc., may be used as the catalyst in an amount of 0.01W0.5 wt.% based on the total reactant.
