Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A thiazolidine-2-carboxylic acid derivative of formula I: (R1 is H, lower alkyl group; R2 is H or methyl group; X is O or S; n is 0, 1, or 2).
USE: Agricultural and horticultural fungicides particularly effective against gray-mold and sclerotinia rot of plants, with low toxicity to plants, men and cattle, and fish.
PROCESS: An ester of a thiazolidine-2-carboxylic acid of formula II (R1 is lower alkyl group) is reacted with a 3,5-dichlorophenyl isocyanate or 3,5-dichlorophenyl thioisocyanate of formula III in an organic solvent, e.g. benzene, toluene, or ether, to give a compound of formula I: (R1 is lower alkyl group; n is 0).
