Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a polyimide/polyhydantoin resin coating composition capable of forming films having improved mechanical strength and abrasion resistance, without degrading the heat resistance, by incorporating a ring closure polyimide solution in a phenol solvent with a polyhydantoin resin.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture of bicyclo [2.2.2] oct-7-ene-2,3,5,6-tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride (BTA) and pyromellitic acid dianhydride (PMDA) or a benzophenonetetracarboxylic acid dianhydride. (BPTA) is reacted with a primary diamine in a phenol solvent to give a ring closure polyimide resin solution, which is mixed with a polyhydantoin resin. The molar ratio of BTA to PMDA is 95:5W 75:25; that of BTA to BPTA, 80:20W20:80.
