Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare polyimide molded articles having excellent tensile strength, by polycondensing a specific aromatic diamine component with a specific aromatic tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride component to give the corresponding polyamic acid, casting the acid to the desired form and converting to the imide.
CONSTITUTION: (a) An aromatic diamine component comprising 4,4'-diamino-diphenyl ether (DADE) and p-phenylenediamine (PPD), wherein the molar ratio of DADE/PPD is 0W2.5, and (b) an essentially equi-molar amount of 3, 3', 4, 4' -biphenyl-tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride, are added to an organic polar solvent, e.g. N-methylpyrrolidone, etc., at the same time. The solution is polycondensed at 0W80°C, preferably at 5W50°C, to give the solution of the polyamic acid, and the product is formed into film etc.. The cast polyamic acid is converted to the imide to give the desired polyimide casting product.
EFFECT: Excellent in heat resistance.
