Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a gas discharge lamp having a sintered electrode of good performance characteristic, with an excellent electron emission characteristic and its maintainability, by forming into a prescribed shape and sintering the composite granule unit in which surfaces of the granule unit of electron emitting material are coated by heat resistant metal and the like.
CONSTITUTION: More than one kind of electron emitting material oxide or carbonate, for instance, BaO, CaO, SrO, BaCO3, CaCO3, SrCO3, etc. and more than one kind of heat resistant metal (W, Mo, Ta, Ti, Zr, Ni, Nb, etc.) or heat resistant oxide (ZrO2, Al2O3, ThO2, Y2O3, etc.) are mixed, after being processed firing at 1200W1800°C in vacuum and neutral or reducing atmosphere, pulverized and granulated. On surfaces of this granule unit is coated a heat resistant metal or its oxide fine powder in conglomerate state, being formed into a prescribed shape, and sintered at 1150W1750°C to construct the electrode.
