Abstract

PURPOSE: To save costly coloring solution, reduce the thickness of the device and reduce breakage by burying a pipe for injecting electro-chemical coloring solution to an electrochromic image (EC) display device in the insulation-type substrate or light-transmittable window plate of the device.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of sealing an EC solution in the EC display device, a groove 9 is formed, e.g., in an insulation-type substrate 1and a fine metal pipe 8 is inserted therein. Through this pipe 8, the EC solution is injected, after which the groove is sealed. A spacer 3 can be thinner than that of the case wherein the pipe is penetrated through the spacer 3 and the solution is injected into the device therethrough as with conventional ones, hence the required EC solution can be much less and there is no danger of breadage of the device owing to expansion at the temperature raising, cooling and solifying of the EC solution, thus saving of the costly EC solution if feasible. Providing the groove 9 in a transparent window plate 2 is equally well.
