Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a resin composition useful as a base resin of an FRP molded article having low whitening tendency and monomer vaporization and excellent air-drying property, by compounding an unsaturated oligoester prepared from dicyclopentadiene with a vinyl monomer.
CONSTITUTION: (1) (a) A tri- or more polyhydric alcohol (e.g. trimethylolpropane, etc.) is reacted with (b) maleic anhydride, etc. at 140°C. (2) The product is added with (c) dicyclopentadiene at 120W150°C. (3) The product is reacted with (d) a glycol (e.g. ethylene glycol, etc.) to give an unsaturated oligoester I (R1 is 1W6C tri- or more polyhydric alcohol residual group; ≥1/3 (molar ratio) of R2 is II and the rest is a divalent hydrocarbon; R3 is 1W10C hydrocarbon; 0<x, 0.3≤y, 0.1≤ z, 3≤x+y+z≤6). (4) The oligoester is mixed with (e) a vinyl monomer (e.g. styrene, etc.) to give a resin composition.
