Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a filler for dental plastics, effective to reinforce an artificial tooth made of a synthetic resin, and composed of powder of highly pure fushed silica having specific physical properties.
CONSTITUTION: The title filler comprising powder of fused silica having a Hunter whiteness of ≥73, SiO2 content of ≥99wt%, a specific surface area of ≥1m2/g (determined by BET process), and X-ray diffraction patterns lack in the diffraction lines corresponding to those of α-quartz, cristobalite, and tridymite. The powder may be treated with silane coupling agent. A uniform composite plastic for dental use having excellent whiteness and toughness can be prepared by adding the filler to a base resin.
