Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the reflecting plate of superior heat resistance and durability and high reflectance by providing an alkali metal silicate film layer on the oxide layer formed through oxidation of a metal substrate, forming a reflecting layer thereon and further providing a protecting layer on the reflecting layer.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of a metal substrate 20 such as steel plate is heat- treated in air to form an oxide film 21, for reflecting mirrors of lighting, heaters, etc. Next, an alkali metal silicate film 22 is formed on the film 21 by coating the aqueous solution of silica and salts of alkali metal oxides and drying the same then firing for about 10 minutes at about 250°C. A reflecting layer 23 is formed through vacuum evaporation of Al or the like on the film 22. Further, the protecting film 24 for the reflecting layer 23 is formed similarly to the film 22 or is formed by silicone resins, fluorine resins or SiO2 film of heat resistance, good transparency and good corrosion resistance. In this way, the adhesiveness of the substrate 20 and reflecting layer 23 and the smoothness and heat resistance of the reflecting layer 23 are improved and the high reflectance maintained for a long time.
