Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a dialkylaminoalkyl acrylate or methacrylate useful as an antistatic agent, a electrical conductive additive, etc., by ester-exchange reaction of a lower alkyl acrylate or methacrylate with a dialkylaminoalkanol in the presence of lead cyanide as a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A lower alkyl acrylate or methacrylate I (R1 is H or CH3; R2 is 1W4C alkyl) is reacted with a dialkylaminoalkanol II (R3 and R4 are 1W8C alkyl, aralkyl, etc.; R5 is 2W4C alkylene) at 40W90°C in the presence of lead cyanide to give easily the compound III in a high yield substantially without the side reaction. The amount of the catalyst is 0.2W10wt% on the basis of the dialkylaminoalkanol. A polymerization inhibitor, e.g. phenols, mercaptans, etc., can be added to suppress polymerization of the raw material and the desired product.
