Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound industrially advantageously, by a vapor- phase flow reaction of a mixed gas containing conjugated diene, an organic carboxylic acid and oxygen, in the presence of a specific solid catalyst comprising Pd supported on a carrier having acid sites according to the cation exchange method.
CONSTITUTION: A mixed gas of a conjugated diene, of a compound of the formula (R1WR6 are H, alkyl, etc.), an organic carboxylic acid, e.g. a lower aliphatic one, and oxygen is subjected to the vapor-phase flow reaction, in the presence of a solid catalyst comprising carboxylic salt of Pd, V, Sb or an alkali metal, occasionally further an alkali metal halogenide, as essential components, to obtain an unsaturated diester, especially unsaturated glycol diester. In this preparation, Pd metioned above is supported on a carrier, e.g. alumina, having acid sites, with the cation exchange method. The prolonged life of catalyst having the activity stable in a long term permits the object compound in high yield and selectivity.
