Abstract

PURPOSE: To minimize use of electric apparatus by utilizing steam carrying means for transporting steel balls, and to improve efficiency for removing soot from heat transfer surfaces and attain uniform distribution of steel balls by use of the carrier steam.
CONSTITUTION: In cleaning heat exchanging surfaces 2, control valve 18f is opened and control valve 18e is closed at first, whereby steam supplied from steam pressure reducing means 14 is delivered to steam injection nozzle 34 at the upper end of fixed pipe 3a and also to steam injection nozzle 35 of speed reduction box 10c. Then, control valve 10a is opened so that steel balls are dropped through transport pipe 10b into speed reducing tank 10c, where kinetic energy is once lost substantially. Steel balls thus received in tank 10c are introduced into fixed pipe 3e together with steam ejected from nozzle 35 and then scattered unifromly onto heat transfer surfaces 2 together with steam ejected from nozzle 34 by means of scattering means 3c which is arranged to move vertically within a limited range while being turned simultaneously.
