Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare pyrimidine ribonucleosides or pyrimidine deoxyribonucleosides, by the transition of sugar part from a ribose imparter or deoxyribose imparter using a bacterium.
CONSTITUTION: A ribose imparter or deoxyribose imparter is reacted with a pyrimidine base shown by the formula I (X is OH or NH2; Y is H, NO2, halogen, alkoxy, or CF2; Z is H or COOH) in the presence of a bacterium belonging to the genus Escherichia, having an ability to transfer β-D-ribofuranosyl group of the ribose imparter or β-D-deoxyribofuranosyl group of the deoxyribose imparter to the first position of the compound shown by the formula I in an aqueous solution at 50W 65°C, to give a nucleoside shown by the formula II (X, Y, and Z are the same as those shown ealier; R is β-D-ribofuranosyl group or β-D-deoxyribofuranosyl group).
