Abstract

CONSTITUTION: A base material such as aluminum, iron, glass or the like is used properly according to the application of the resulting reflector, and a mirror surface formed on the material is covered with a siliceous transparent protective film consisting of 52.0W97.0mol% SiO2, 1W23mol% at least one oxide selected from P2O5, B2O3 and Al2O3, and 2W25mol% at least one alkali metal oxide selected from Li2O, Na2O and K2O other than water by sputtering or other method. Since the protective film contains such oxide and such alkali metal oxide as well as silica, it has antibrittleness, superior heat resistance and superior thermal impact resistance, and the chemical resistance, especially the alkali resistance of the mirror surface can be enhanced.
