Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the hydrophilic property and oxygen permeability of lenses by forming the lenses with an amino acid copolymer contg. glutamine residues represented by a specified general formula and substituted for part of the benzyl glutamate residues. CONSTITUTION:Glutamine residues represented by formula I (where R is aliphatic hydrocarbon) are substituted for part of the benzyl glutamate residues in an amino acid copolymer contg. benzyl glutamate for a film. The film as a substrate film is surface treated with a hydroxyalkylamine to obtain soft contact lenses. The benzyl glutamate content of said substrate film is 5-80, preferably 10-40mol%. As the hydroxyalkylamine 3-hydroxypropylamine, 2-hydroxyethylamine or the like is preferably used.
