Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the titled compsn. which is capable of making the amount of soluble copper ion uniform, can effectively consume all of cuprous oxide in a coating film component and can prolong coating film life, containing, as the active ingredient, a component obtd. by blending at least one member selected from red phosphorus, copper phosphide and zinc phosphide with cuprous oxide.

CONSTITUTION: There is provided an antifouling paint compsn. contg., as the active ingredient, a component obtd. by blending at least one member (B) selected from red phosphorus, copper phosphide [a compd. of the formula Cu_nP_m (wherein n and m are each a positive integer, m/n=0.1W2.0) e.g. Cu₃P] and zinc phosphide (ZnP₂ and/or Zn₃P₂) with cuprous oxide (A). With regard to the amounts of the above compds. in said antifouling compsn., it is preferred to use the component (A) in an amount of 20W75wt% and the component (B) in an amount of 0.01W 20wt%, when film-forming properties, antifouling properties, coating film, etc. are taken into consideration. By the addition of the component (B), the solubility of copper in sea water is increased and copper can be dissolved at a constant speed. Further, it is possible that the component (B) is blended with a resin, and the blend is sprayed on a previously coated Cu₂ surface to renew it.
