Abstract
PURPOSE: To form a protective film having a number of unevenness, by using the magnetic disk containing only the magnetic layer formed on the surface as the anode plus the protective film material used for the cathode respectively and then inserting the mask having a number of pores between the anode and the cathode to secure the glow discharge.
CONSTITUTION: Sputtering device 1 using the glow discharge is put into casing 2 into which the inactive gas such as Ar or the like is enclosed hermetically. Then cathode 3 of SiO2, Al2O3 and the like functioning as the protective material, anode 5 of magnetic disk 5 with only magnetic layer 5b formed on substrate 5a plus mask 6 having a number of pores 6a between cathode 3 and anode 5 are provided respectively within casing 2. The DC voltage is applied between cathode 3 and anode 5 to make the metal molecule such as SiO2 or the like stick to anode 5 through the sputtering method. For the metal molecule, those which passed through pore 6a as indicated by the arrow stick on layer 5b of the disk to form protective film 5e having hollowed area 5d connecting to protruded area 5c. The lubricant is impregnated into area 5d of disk 5c. As a result, the magnetic head can be prevented from being adsorbed to disk 5 or receiving the damage.
