Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a rubber compsn. having improved processability and physical properties, by a method wherein a vulcanized rubber powder and a peroxide are blended with a mixt. of a raw rubber and a thermoplastic elastomer.
CONSTITUTION: 5W300pts.wt. of a vulcanized rubber powder and 0.01W10pts.wt. of a peroxide are blended with 100pts.wt. of a mixt. consisting of 5W95pts.wt. of a thermoplastic elastomer and 95W5pts.wt. of a raw rubber consisting of natural rubber and/or a synthetic rubber. Examples of preferred thermoplastic elastomers are a styrene-butadiene block copolymer and a 1,2-polybutadiene having a vinyl bond content of at least 70%, a crystallinity of not less than 5% and an intrinsic viscosity [η] of not less than 0.7 (at 30°C in toluene). Examples of the vulcanized rubber powders are ground rubbers obtd. from vulcanized rubber products such as tires, belts, hoses, footwears and the like. The ground rubber particles through pref. at least 20 mesh screen are used.
