Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as a titanium crosslinking agent, a catalyst, a coating agent, etc., in high yield, by reacting a titanium hydroxide prepared by hydrolyzing with a strong alkaline water at a pH above a specific value, with a carboxylic acid in the presence of water.
CONSTITUTION: An organic titanium compound containing a carboxyl group is prepared by the reaction of a carboxylic acid such as acetic, propionic acid, butyric acid, hexanoic acid, oleic acid, etc. with a tatravalent titanium hydroxide in the presence of water, wherein the titanium hydroxide is the one prepared by hydrolyzing a hydrolyzeable tetravalent titanium compound such as titanium tetrachloride, titanium sulfate, titanium nitrate, etc. with a strong alkaline water of pH ≥10. A titanium carboxylic acid compound containing a chelate group can also be obtained by the combined use of the carboxylic acid compound and a chelating agent such as β-diketone.
