Abstract

PURPOSE: To hold a specimen and to center it accurately with a simple mechanism, by piercingly connecting the end of one cylinder rod to the end of the other cylinder head and charging this with a liquid.
CONSTITUTION: A rod's end 14R of a cylinder 14, which has built-in piston rods 12 and 13 operating chuck blades 9 and 10, is piercingly connected to a head's end 15H of the other cylinder 15 by a through passage 16 formed in main body of a crosshead 1, and this is charged with a liquid in such a manner that the liquid- containing sectional areas of the rod's end 14R and the head's end 15H are to be equal to each other. By doing so, when the head's end 14R is charged with liquid pressure, the piston rod 12 is displaced and the chuck blade 9 is displaced toward a specimen A, and at the same time, the charged liquid in the rod's end 14R is sent into the head's end 15H to displace the piston rod 13 and to displace the chuck blade 10 toward the specimen A, and because of the equal displacements between the pistons 12 and 13, the specimen is able to be held by the chucks 9 and 10 in a position coinciding with the centerline of a testing equipment.
