USE: Antibacterial agent having remedying effect to the inflammatory diseases caused by various pathogenic bacteria. It has also activity to inhibit the synthesis of DNA and RNA, and is useful as an antineoplasmic agent.
PROCESS: Bacteria belonging to Streptomyces genus and capable of producing DC-44- A or DC-44-B are cultured in a medium, and the accumulated DC-44-A and/or DC-44-B are separated from the medium. The preferable strain is DO-44 strain belonging to Streptomyces argenteogriseus species.
