Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:2,2-Dimethyl-3-(2,2-dibromovinyl)cyclopropanecarboxylic acid esters of formula (A is H, cyano or ethynyl).
EXAMPLE: 3-(4-Chlorophenoxy)benzyl 2,2-dimethyl-3-(2,2-dibromovinyl)cyclopropanecarboxylate.
USE: Insecticide effective to house vermins such as cockroach, fly, etc. and agricultural and horticultural vermins such as aphid, leafhopper, etc. It has rapid and nevertheless long action, and is low toxic to man, beast and fish.
PROCESS: The compound of formula is prepared by reacting e.g. 2,2-dimethyl-3-(2, 2- dibromovinyl)cyclopropanecarboxylic acid halide with 3-(4-chlorophenoxy)benzyl alcohol, etc. in the presence of a tert-amine such as pyridine.
