Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:2,3-Diamino-2, 3-N, N'-carbonyl-2, 3, 5-trideoxy-5-C-carbomethoxypropane-D-ribofuranose.
USE: Synthetic intermediate of (+)-biotin. Starting material to various synthetic organic compounds. Especially it is very useful in high selective synthesis of (+)- biotin of formula I, a natural form of a vitamin.
PREPARATION: For example, a compound of formula VIII (Ph is phenyl) derived from D-glucosamine of formula II is oxidized with periodic acid. The product is made to react with [3-carbomethoxypropen-(2)-ylidene-(1)]triphenylphosphorane to give a compound of formula IX. Further, the compound of formula IX is catalytically reduced in a solvent such as ethanol in the presence of a catalyst such as Pd-C to produce the compound of formula X.
