Abstract

PURPOSE: The titled fiber that is composed of an ethylene terephthalate copolyester containing specific structure units, thus having high adhesion to rubber and heat resistance and showing very low reduction in strength by heat.
CONSTITUTION: Said polyester fiber is composed of ethylene terephthalate as the major structure units and of 0.1W5%, preferably 0.2W3%, based on the total structural units, of formula I and/or II (X is divalent organic group with 5 or 6-membered ring structure; R is alkylene group; n is 0, 1) and has an intrinsic viscosity of higher than 0.6 and a terminal carboxyl value of less than 20 equiv./106g. The above polyester is obtained by melt reaction of polyethylene terephthalate with terminal carboxyls with a compound of formula III.
