Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a toner having a narrow particle size distribution, a partially electrically conductive surface and superior transferability with a simple apparatus by forming a toner composition into a film or fibrous shape followed by pulverization.
CONSTITUTION: A toner composition consisting of a binding resin of 50W180°C m.p., a colorant such as pigment or dye, an antistatic agent, wax and a plasticizer is extruded into a ≤100μ film shape or drawn into a fibrous shape. At this time, the film or fiber surface is subjected to corona discharge treatment. In case of a magnetic toner to the composition is added magnetic powder. The film or fiber is then allowed to stand at 30W60°C for a while, cut into about 1mm sizes with a cutter or the like or coarsely pulverized, and finely pulverized to obtain toner particles of about 10W30μ average particle size. By the corona discharge treatment the antistatic agent is bled from the toner surface, so the toner is partially provided with electric conductivity and has enhanced transferability in an electric field.
