Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled blend oil to be used in direct liquefaction of coal by Belgius process, by hydroracking a paste of coal and a petroleum heavy oil under specific conditions in the presence of a hydrocracking catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A petroleum heavy oil containing about 25W55% aromatic component and having a boiling point of 280°C or higher (e.g. Kuwait crude oil residue or asphaltene of Kabji crude oil) is mixed with coal (e.g. sub-bituminous coal) to form a paste having a coal concentration of 20W50wt%. A hydrocracking catalyst showing activity below about 440°C (e.g. tin chloride, or iron onide-sulfur) is added to the paste, and the mixture is continuously hydrocracked under the condition of a hydrogen partial pressure of 160W230kg/cm2, a reaction temperature of 380W440°C and a residence time of 30W60min.
