Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a titled metallic mold having superior heat check resistant property at a low cost by inserting the metallic mold material to be inserted formed with a low m.p. layer in a surface layer part with an insert material and locally melting the low m.p. layer thereby forming these into one body.
CONSTITUTION: Beforehand, a metallic mold cavity and a water hole are formed in a metallic material to be inserted by forging, rolling, turning or other machining. Next, surface treatment such as, for example, carburizing or boriding, is applied on the surface to be inserted of this metallic mold material so that a low m.p. layer is formed in the surface layer part thereof. Thence, it is inserted by the insert material made higher by a prescribed temp. than the m.p. thereof, and the low m.p. layer of the material to be inserted is locally melted, whereby the boundary surfaces in the joint part are thoroughly adhered. Thereafter, this is subjected to diffusion annealing treatment if necessary to accelerate component uniformalization. According to this method, the casting mold of characteristics equal to those of a single substance mold or superior to these is manufactured.
