Abstract

PURPOSE:To evade relocating processing by displaying abnormality of a defective information byte group by recording a specific pattern in succession to the defective information byte group when detecting abnormality in write processing. CONSTITUTION:Under a request-to-write command from a host device 1 to a magnetic tape device 3, an information byte group is transferred via an input and output control part 5, a processing part 6 and a driving part 8 to the magnetic tape device 3, where it is written. The information byte group is read out and transferred to a reception part 2. A processing part 6, on detecting abnormality in write processing, actuates a specific pattern generation part 10 and commands the driving part 8 write a specific pattern through the magnetic tape device 3. The device 3 writes and rereads the specific pattern and transfers it to a reception part 9. The processing part 6 makes a request to rewrite the information byte group, which is recorded normally. Thus, abnormality of a defective information byte group is displayed and relocating processing is evaded.
