Abstract

PURPOSE: A herbicide effective for gramineous weeds and broad-leaved weeds, having no phytotoxicity to crops, especially to cotton, comprising 3-[3-(4H-1,2,4- triazolyl)amino]-1-(3H)-isobenzofuranon as an active ingredient.
CONSTITUTION: A herbicide comprising 3-[3-(4H-1,2,4-triazolyl)amino]-1-(3H)- isobenzofuranon an active ingredient. As a form to be used, the compound is usually diluted with an inert liquid or solid carrier, and, if necessary, with a surface active agent, to give an emulsion, dust, wettable powder, etc. for use. The active ingredient can be prepared easily by heating O-formylbenzoic acid shown by the formula I and 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole shown by the formula II in an inert solvent, e.g., methanol, benzene, etc. at 50W150°C with stirring.
