Abstract

PURPOSE:To charge a photoreceptor stably and to prevent variations in charging due to the deterioration of a charging frictional slide member, by transporting the frictional slide member sequentially while impregnating the member with a small quantity of electrically conductive liquid. CONSTITUTION:The electrode 9 of a charger 3 is made of electrically conductive rubber, a frictional slide member 10 made of soft cotton is fitted to the surface of the electrode, and an electric source 11 is connected between a cylinder 1 and the electrode 9. The frictional slide member 10 is impregnated with a very small quantity of conductive liquid and transported to a wind-up scroll 15 continuously. In this constitution, stable charging free from discharging irregularity and charging irregularity is achieved even at a low applied voltage because of the conductive liquid. When the member 10 is moved by 0.1mm. in every copy, charging characteristics never deteriorate even when 10,000 copies are taken and copy density is unchanged. Thus, variations in charging are prevented while stable charging is perfoemed.
