Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce deashed coal of extremely low ash content, by pulverizing raw coal, forming a slurry of pulverized coal, adding a seed (nucleating agent) and a low-boiling oil to the slurry, and treating the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: Raw coal is pulverized to produce pulverized coal having a particle size of several tens W hundreds μm (at the same time ash contained in coal is pulverized). The pulverized coal is slurried in a proper amount of water. A low- boiling oil such as kerosine and a seed such as a particulate synthetic resin or coarse coal powder having a particle size of several μm, are added to the slurry to granulate them. The resulting granulates composed of the pulverized coal, the low- boiling oil and the seed are separated from the slurry, and washed with water to remove ash. The treated granulates are heated to remove the low-boiling oil and water. Then the desired product, pelletized deashed coal is separated from the seed. The recovered seed is recycled to the granulating stage. Evaporated gas composed of the low-boiling oil and water is condensed and separated from each other. Water is recycled to the washing stage. The low-boiling oil is recycled to the granulating stage.
