Abstract
PURPOSE: To omit pickling and improve production efficiency by incorporating a rolling process at limited rolling reduction and a mechanical film-removing process in the beginning of a cold rolling process and thereby crushing and sweeping off oxidized film of a cold rolled steel strip.
CONSTITUTION: A hot rolled steel strip with scales adhered on the surface is sent out from an uncoiler 1 and connected with the preceding steel strip 9 by a welding machine 2. With scales adhered on it, it is passed through a looper 3 and cold- rolled at a proper rolling reduction between 15% and 30% to form many cracks on the oxidized film by crushing and facilitate descaling. Next, the oxidized film of the steel strip 9 is completely swept off by a mechanical descaler 5. After this, the steel stip 10 from which its oxidized film is removed is, as required, further cold-rolled to a specified thickness by rolling mills 6, and coiled by a coiler 7.
