Abstract
PURPOSE: A self-crosslinking acrylic copolymer is used as a primer and a hydrolyzate of a silane compond is used as a facing to produce the titled moldings with high surface hardness, wearing resistance and adhesion to the substrate.
CONSTITUTION: Plastic moldings such as polyester resin moldings are coated with (A) 1W20wt% solution of self-crosslinking acrylic copolymer such as a copolymer of N-methylol-acrylamide and methyl methacrylate on the surface as a primer and heat treated to form a primer layer of 0.1W5 micron thickness. Then, a mixture (B) consisting of 5W30wt% hydrolyzate of an organotrialkoxysilane such as methyltrimethoxysilane, less than 70% colloidal silica and 0.05W1% curing catalyst such as sodium acetate is coated on the heat-treated moldings and heat treated again to form a facing layer of 0.2W10 micron thickness.
