Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide binder glass consisting of specified primary and secondary components, having specified surface tension at the m.p. and high bonding strength to mica powder, enabling direct printing and well complementing the color forming effect of mica powder.
CONSTITUTION: This binder glass has ≤280dyne/cm surface tension at the m.p. and consists of, by wt., 13W60% PbO, 15W65% SiO2, 1W14% B2O3 and 0.5W 15% R2O (R is an alkali metal and B2O3+R2O=5W25%) as principal components and 0W5% each of ZnO, CdO and ZrO2, 0W4% Al2O3 and 0W3% Tl2O as secondary components. In order to paint the surfaces of ceramics with a noble metallic color, mica powder coated with TiO2, etc. is kneaded with powder of said binder glass in the presence of a kneading agent for regulating the viscosity, and the kneaded material is applied by screen printing or other method. When the glass body is melted by baking the material, it can surely hold the mica powder by the high wetness due to the surface tension.
