Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a track pitch dense and also to reduce a dead space on a recording medium, by forming an insulating layer on a part of a magnetic layer constituting a magnetic head, and laminating it like a layer through a winding, on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:Lower magnetic layers M2, M4 constituting a thin film magnetic head for each channel are formed on a substrate 10 by means of vapor-deposition and photoetching. Subsequently, on a part of them, an insulating layer is formed, and on said layer,each winding C2, C4 is formed spirally. Also, on each winding, an insulating layer if formed, and on this insulating layer, upper magnetic layers M2', M4' having the same material quality as th magnetic layers M2, M4 are formed respectively. After the insulating layer 11 has been formed on their whole surface, other magnetic head for each channel is formed on a different stage in the same way. In this way, since the track pitch is controlled to only the width W of each magnetic layer, the track pitch is made dense and a dead space on the recording medium is reduced.
