Abstract
PURPOSE: A resin composition excellent in adhesion and cracking resistance and suitable for electrical insulation, comprising a xylene/formaldehyde resin and a compound prepared by adding a specified acrylate to an adduct between animal or vegetable oil and maleic anhydride.
CONSTITUTION: The resin composition comprises (A) a compound prepared by adding maleic anhydride to an animal or vegetable oil containing double bonds to which maleic anhydride can be added, e.g., soybean oil, fish oil, and then adding, to the resulting adduct, a 2-hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate, e.g., 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, 2-hydroxypropyl acrylate, and (B) a xylene/formaldehyde resin. In view of curability, it is preferred to use resin B in an amount of 3W30wt%, based on the total amount. This combination of components A and B provides a resin composition having excellent adhesion, flexibility and cracking resistance and being suitable for casting, impregnation and painting of electrical devices.
