Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 本発明は水架橋性ポリオレフィンパイプの接続方法に関
する。
一般の非架橋ポリオレフィンからなるパイプは接続部を
加熱溶融させることにより、簡単に接続することができ
るので、配管施工が容易であるが、反面、耐熱性に乏し
いため、給湯はか、高温の流体用のパイプとしては用い
るに適さない。一方、近年になって開発された架橋ポリ
オレフィンからなるパイプは、耐熱性、耐環境応力亀裂
性等の諸物性にすぐれるが、他方、架橋ポリオレフィン
は熱溶融しないか、又は僅かにしか熔融しないので、非
架橋ポリオレフィンパイプのように、熱溶融によって強
固に接続することは困難であり、配管施工性に劣る問題
がある。、 本発明者らは、上記した問題を解決するために鋭意研究
した結果、水架橋性ポリオレフィンからなるパイプと継
手を、それらがまだ低架橋の状態にある間に、継手内壁
面と接触されるパイプの外壁面を所定温度に加熱すると
共に、継手の内壁面を所定温度に加熱した後、パイプを
継手内に挿入して、溶融接着させることによって、強固
に継手接続することができることを見出して、本発明に
至ったものである。
即ち、本発明は、水架橋性ポリオレフィンパイ。
プを水架橋性ポリオレフィン継手で接続する方法におい
て、パイプの外壁面及び継手の内壁面を、上記水架橋性
ポリオレフィンの融点をt ’cとするとき、(t+6
0)’C以上、(t+160)’C以下であって、且つ
、400℃以下の温度に加熱し、次いで、パイプを継手
内に挿入して溶融接着させることを特徴とする。
水架橋性ポリオレフィンは、すでに種々のものが知られ
ており、本発明においてパイプ及び継手を構成する水架
橋性ポリオレフィンは、このような従来より知られてい
る水架橋性ポリオレフィンのいずれであってもよい。例
えば、その一つとして、加水分解し得る有機基を有する
と共に、エチレン性不飽和基を有するシロキサン化合物
を含有する水架橋性ポリオレフィンを挙げることができ
る。この水架橋性ポリオレフィンは、ポリエチレン、ポ
リプロピレン、エチレン−プロピレン共重合体、エチレ
ン−酢酸ビニル共重合体等のポリオレフィンと、上記エ
チレン性不飽和シロキサン化合物と、遊離ラジカル発生
剤と、必要に応じて、シラノール縮合触媒とからなる。
上記において、エチレン性不飽和シロキサン化合物とし
ては、代表的にはビニルトリメトキシシラン、ビニルト
リエトキシシラン、ビニルトリアセトキシシラン してはジクミルパーオキシド、ラウロイルパーオキシド
、ジプロビオニルパーオキシト、ヘンシイルバーオキシ
ド、ジルt−ブチルバーオキシド、t−ブチルヒドロパ
ーオキシF等の過酸化物、アゾビスイソブチロニトリル
、アブイソブチルバレロニトリル等のアゾ化合物等、従
来より知られている通常のものが適宜に用いられる。ま
た、シラノール縮合触媒としても、既に種々のものが知
られており、例えば、ジブチルスズジラウレ−1・、ジ
ブチルスズジアセテート、ジブチルスズジオクトエート
、酢酸第一スズ、カプリル酸第−スズ、ナフテン酸亜鉛
、カプリル酸亜鉛、ナフテン酸コバルト等が適宜に用い
られる。
また、水架橋性ポリオレフィンの別の例として、特開昭
55−9611号公報に記載されているエチレンと前記
エチレン性不飽和シロキサン化合物との共重合体と、必
要に応して、」1記したようなシラノール縮合触媒とを
含有する水架橋性ポリオレフィンも好適に用いることが
できる。
本発明の方法は、上記した中でも、ポリオレフィンがポ
リエチレンである水架橋性ポリエチレンからなるパイプ
及び継手、特に、初めに挙げたエチレン性不飽和シラン
化合物とラジカル発生剤と、必要に応じてシラノール縮
合触媒とを含有する水架橋性ポリエチレンからなるパイ
プ及び継手を用いて接続する場合に好適である。
殊に、かかる水架橋性ポリエチレンの中でも、特に好ま
しいものの第1は、密度が0. 9 3 0〜0。
955、Mlが0.2〜3.0g/10分である中高密
度ポリエチレンである。このようなポリエチレンは融点
が高く、耐熱性にすぐれていると共に、架橋前の耐環境
応力亀裂性にすぐれ、更に、水架橋によるゲル分率到達
度が高いからである。上記より高密度のポリエチレンは
耐環境応力亀裂性が十分でな(、一方、」1記より低密
度のポリエチレンは融点が低く、耐熱性において十分で
ないからである。本発明において特に好ましいポリエチ
レンの第2は、密度0. 9 2 0〜0. 9 3 
5、M I O. 2〜3.Og/10分である低中密
度リニートポリエチレンと称されるものである。かかる
ポリエチレンも上記第1のポリエチレンと同様の利点を
有する。
但し、本発明において用い得る水架橋性ポリオレフィン
は上に例示したものに限定されるものではなく、また、
パイプと継手を構成する水架橋性ポリオレフィンが同一
のものである必要はない。
更に、本発明において、継手は、スリーブ、ソケット、
エルボ、チーズ等、中空管状の継手部材のすべてを含む
ものとする。
本発明の方法においては、パイプの外壁面及び継手の内
壁面の加熱に先立って、好ましくは、これらの端面を所
謂開先加工する。一般に、水架橋性ポリオレフィンから
なるパイプは、大気中の水分等によって既に当初より多
少とも架橋しており、特に、パイプや継手の表面層にお
いてこの傾向が著しるしい。このように、表面層と内部
層においてゲル分率が相違するとき、良好な熔融接着が
妨げられる場合があるので、図面に示すように、パイプ
1と継手2の端面3の角部を除去するのである。この加
工を開先加]二と称する。一般に継手接続の場合、パイ
プの外径と継手内径は同じであるか、場合によっては、
継手内径の方がやや小さい。
従って、パイプ表面層のゲル分率が高い場合等には、パ
イプを継手に挿入するとき、パイプの端面の角部が継手
内壁にくい込んで、円滑にパイプを挿入し得ない場合も
あるが、上記のように開先加工を施しておけば、パイプ
を継手に円滑に挿入することができる。
次に、水架橋性ポリオレフィンからなるパイプ及び継手
の融着接着には、少なくともその融着接着部位において
、ポリオレフィンのゲル分率は可及的に小さい方が好ま
しい。通常、水架橋性ポリオレフィンからなるパイプ及
び継手は、前記したように、水架橋工程前に既に5%程
度又はそれ以上のゲル分率を有するが、水架橋前に有す
る程度のゲル分率は、本発明の方法を実施するのに何ら
差支えない。しかし、ゲル分率が60%以上であるとき
は、加熱によっても、パイプを十分に強固に継手接続さ
せることができないと共に、融着後の追架橋によっても
パイプを強固に接続することができないので、ゲル分率
は60%未満であることを要し、好ましくは55%以下
の低架橋の状態にあるのがよい。尚、パイプ及び継手は
、その全体にわたって、ゲル分率が60%未満である必
要はなく、加熱融着部位においてのみでもよい。
本発明の方法によれば、少なくとも継手内壁面と接触さ
れるパイプの外壁面を表面から、通常、肉厚の315ま
で、ポリオレフィンの融点をt ’cとするとき、(t
+60)’C以上、(t+160)℃以下あって、且つ
、400°C以下の温度に加熱する。また、同様に、継
手についても、その内壁面を表面から肉厚の315まで
」1記温度に加熱する。ここに、上記融点は示差熱分析
法による融解ピーク(°C)を意味し、例えば、神原及
び藤原編「高分子分析ハンドブック」3・15・1項、
第178〜183頁(昭和40年朝倉書店発行)に記載
されている方法にて測定することができる。
パイプ及び継手の加熱温度が(t−1−60)’Cより
も低いときは、加熱不足からパイプと継手を十分に融着
接着させることができず、この結果、接続部は高い強度
を有しない。また、加熱温度が(t+160)“C又は
400℃を越えるときは、パイプや継手の強度が却って
低下することがあるので好ましくない。
パイプの接続部全体及び継手全体を加熱すれば、剛性を
失って、パイプを継手に挿入するのに支障をきたすので
、パイプ及び継手の接着面の加熱は、表面から肉厚の3
15までであることを要する。
より詳細には、加熱を要する厚みは、パイプ及び継手肉
厚に依存し、パイプ及び継手の肉厚が1〜301mの場
合、一般的には肉厚の1150から3/3であるが、好
ましくは1/20から1/2、特に好ましくは1/10
から215である。
加熱手段は特に制限されないが、パイプ及び継手を同時
に可及的に速やかにその全円周にわたって所定温度に加
熱するために、パイプ外径及び継手内径に相当する径の
ホス状の加熱部を有するヒーターをそれぞれの接続面に
挿入し、加熱するのが望ましい。
次いで、上記のように、パイプ及び継手を所定温度に加
熱した後、それぞれの温度を融点以上に保って、パイプ
を継手に挿入し、溶融接着させる。
この際、潤滑剤を用いなくとも挿入できるが、好ましく
は、例えば、前記の水架橋性ポリオレフィンをトルエン
、キシレン等の溶剤に溶解させ、これを潤滑剤として少
量用いることにより、一層円滑にパイプを継手に挿入す
ることができる。通常、潤滑剤は加熱前に塗布される。
上記のような接続作業の後、パイプ及び継手を水架橋す
れば、強固な継手接続部を有する接続パイプを得ること
ができる。以上のようにして得られた接続部は既に比較
的高強度を有しているので、送水、給湯を5kg/−程
度以下の低圧で行なう場合には、このような送水、給湯
に供しつつ、パイプを水架橋させることができる。通常
、水架橋には常温乃至100℃の水を通過させて行なう
が、好ましくは50〜100℃の温度の水がよい。
以上のように、本発明によれば、継手接続すべきパイプ
の外壁面及び継手内壁面を所定温度に加0 熱した後、パイプを継手に挿入して、熔融接着さセるこ
とによって、強固な接続部を有するパイプを得ることが
できる。
以下・に実施例により本発明を説明する。尚、以下にお
いて、部は重量部を表わす。
実施例 密度0.95g/cJ、Mll、5g/10分のポリエ
チレン100部、ビニルトリメトキシシラン2部、ジク
ミルパーオキシド0.15部及びジブチルスズジラウレ
ート0.05部とからなる水架橋性ポリエチレン組成物
を用いて、外径6011肉厚51のパイプを成形し、ま
た、外径72菖1、肉厚61のスリーブを成形した。こ
のパイプ及びスリーブの融点は129℃、ゲル分率は5
%であった。
このパイプの外壁面とスリーブの内壁面を前記したよう
なヒーターにて可及的に速やかに温度230℃に加熱し
た後、パイプをスリーブ内に挿入し、熔融圧着させた。
この後、これを90℃の熱水中に60時間浸漬放置して
、水架橋させた。同様にして、径の異なるパイプとスリ
ーブを成形し、1 2 種々の温度に加熱して、熔融接着させた。
このように得られた接続パイプの接続部の強度を表に示
す。
尚、上記において、ゲル分率はJIS C3005の2
6項に準する方法で測定し、また、接続部の強度は、パ
イプ内に満たした水の圧力を20kg/cJ/分の速度
で漸次上昇させて、パイプが破裂し、又は接続部から漏
水したときの水圧で示した。
比較例 実施例と同じパイプについて、本発明の範囲と異なる温
度領域で加熱した後、熔融接着させた。
このようにして得た接続パイプの接続部の強度を表に示
す。

  1. 41.1  水架橋性ポリオI/フィンパイプを水架橋
    性ポリオレフィン継手で接続する方法において、パイプ
    の外壁面及び継手の内壁面を、上記水架橋性ポリオレフ
    ィンの融点をt ’cとするとき、(t+60)°C以
    上、(t+160)’c以下であって、且つ、400℃
    以下の温度に加熱し、次いで、パイプを継手内に挿入し
    て溶融接着させることを特徴とする水架橋性ポリオレフ
    ィンパイプの接続方法。
