Abstract

PURPOSE: To lower the cost of the product by forming a projection part on an insulating layer, making the projection part serve as a spacer for holding a gap between electrodes, and holding liquid crystal in a recessed part of the insulating layer. CONSTITUTION: Electrodes 5 and 6 face each other across liquid crystal 11, and insulating layers 1 and 4, the insulating layer 1 and electrode 5 are laminated on a glass substrate 7, and the insulating layer 4 and electrode 6 are laminated on a glass substrate 8. The insulating layer 1 has projection parts 1a and recessed parts 1b adjacently; and color insulating layers 2 are formed in the recessed parts 1b and black masks 3 are formed on the projection parts 1a. Therefore, the projection parts 1a of the insulating layer 1 serve as spacers for holding the gap between the electrodes 5 and 6, and the recessed parts 1b of the insulating layer 1 hold the liquid crystal 11, so that the liquid crystal 11 is present only between the electrodes 5 and 6. Consequently, the cost is reducible.
