NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I [R is formula II or III (R1 is lower alkylenedioxy, oxo, etc.; l is 0 or 1; R2 is H or lower alkyl; R3 is H, lower alkanoyl, etc.)] or salt thereof.
EXAMPLE: 6-[4-(N-Methylacetylamino)-1-piperidyl]-3,4-dihydrocarbostyril.
USE: A cardiotonic, hypotensive and anti-inflammatory agent for treating various cardiopathies having low toxicity, slight side effects and excellent positive inotropic, coronary blood stream increasing action, etc., on the other hand, with hardly any heart beat increasing action.
PREPARATION: For example, a carbostyril derivative expressed by formula IV is reacted with an alkylhalocarboxylic acid, such as methyl chloroformate, in the presence of a base, such as triethylamine, to provide a mixed acid anhy dride, which is then reacted with an amine expressed by the formula R6H (R6 is formula V or VI) in a solvent, such as THF.
