Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a high-quality composite carbon nitride of fine powder, useful for producing cermet, by heating a mixture of TiO2, Nb2O3, WO3, etc., in vacuum and reacting in a N2 atmosphere at a specific temperature. CONSTITUTION:TiO2 is mixed with Nb2O3, WO3 and carbon powder to give a mixture, which is heated at 10<-3>-10Torr and heated at 1-100 deg.C/min rate of heating in the whole temperature range from normal temperature (beginning of heat treatment) to the maximum attained temperature of 1,500-2,100 deg.C. When temperature is reached to 1,200-1,500 deg.C, feed of N2 is started. Then pressure in the N2 atmosphere is maintained at >=30Torr and <=10atm., the reaction system is maintained in the N2 atmosphere at 1,500 deg.C-2,100 deg.C and reacted at the maximum attained temperature for 10min-5hr to give a composite carbon nitride of Ti, Nb, and W.
