By comparing these two measured diameter values with a reference value set in advance, when there is difference more than a prescribed value, this is detected as a defective coin. By providing a defect detecting means based on such diameter values, the coin having deformation as shown in the figure can be detected as the defective coin. Thus, detecting processing is simplified and the detection time of defect can be remarkably shortened.
