Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a beam deflection without utilizing an exclusive power supply and a cooling device, by placing a permanent magnet, a movable magnetic yoke and circular pole pieces within orbits of an ion beam and an electron beam. CONSTITUTION:A pair of pole pieces 1 are placed facing each other across a central orbit of a beam 5, permanent magnets 2 are placed as to place the pole pieces 1 between the magnets, magnetic yokes 3 serving also as a part of a vacuum duct are placed as to place the pole pieces 1 and the permanent magnet 2 between the yokes 3 and finally a movable magnetic yoke 4 is placed at a position that supplements the magnetic circuit by the permanent magnets. In this constitution, a circular and uniform magnetic field generates at a gap between the pole pieces. Furthermore, by moving the movable magnetic yoke 4, a resistance of a magnetic circuit consisting of the pole pieces 1, the permanent magnet 2 and the magnetic yoke 3 changes and an intensity of a magnetic field changes continuously so that beams having different kinetic energy can be deflected.
